I get lots of questions about what it’s really like to be a Stampin’ Up!® Demonstrator, so I’ve put together answers to some of the questions I’m asked most often.
Don’t see your question here? Please reach out to me anytime! I’m always happy to answer your questions and help you decide whether becoming a demonstrator is right for you. And don’t worry—there’s never any pressure!
Q. I really just want the discount. Can I do that?
YES, YOU CAN!
You can become a demonstrator simply because you want to enjoy the demonstrator discount on the stamps, paper, ink, tools, and other supplies you’re already purchasing.
You NEVER have to sell to anyone!
Think of it as joining a creative discount club. If you’re already buying Stampin’ Up! products, why not save on them?
Many demonstrators start for exactly this reason!
Q. What happens if I join and decide it isn’t for me?
No problem!
If you decide you don’t want to continue as a demonstrator, there’s no penalty for leaving. And, of course, everything you received in your Starter Kit is yours to keep.
Joining doesn’t mean you’re making a lifetime commitment. You can give it a try and decide along the way whether it’s something you’d like to continue.
Q. Is there a minimum I need to sell to remain an active demonstrator?
Stampin’ Up! does have a quarterly sales requirement to remain active, but here’s the important part:
Your own purchases count toward that requirement!
You don’t have to sell products to friends, family, neighbors, or anyone else just to maintain your demonstrator status.
If your goal is simply to enjoy your discount and build your own stamping collection, you can absolutely be your own best customer!
I’ll always be happy to explain the current quarterly requirements to you before you join so you know exactly what to expect.
Q. Do I have to hold workshops or teach classes?
NO, YOU DO NOT!
This is one of the biggest misconceptions people have about becoming a demonstrator.
You don’t have to teach classes, hold workshops, do Facebook Lives, make videos, host events, or sell products in someone’s home.
Some demonstrators purchase primarily for themselves. Others have a few friends who order from them. Some sell online, some teach classes, and others build larger businesses.
There isn’t one right way to be a demonstrator.
I’ll help you find the path that fits your goals and comfort level.
Q. I don’t have a lot of extra time. How much time does this require?
That’s completely up to you!
When you join my team, one of the first things we’ll talk about is what YOU want from your Stampin’ Up! experience.
If you simply want the discount, the time commitment can be minimal.
If you’d like to earn some extra spending money, you may decide to devote a few hours each week to your business.
If your goal is to grow a larger business, naturally you’ll need to devote more time to it.
That’s one of the things I love about this opportunity. You can work it around your family, job, hobbies, travel, and everything else happening in your life.
You decide what works for you.
Q. I’m not creative! How would I ever come up with enough ideas?
First, I’m going to let you in on a little secret…
We ALL get inspiration from somewhere!
Stampin’ Up! provides demonstrators with lots of project ideas and creative inspiration. There are also demonstrator resources, training, communications, catalogs, and samples to help get those creative juices flowing.
And yes, just like every other crafter, I look at Pinterest, social media, blogs, catalogs, and other sources for inspiration too!
Sometimes I’ll take a color combination from one project, a layout from another, change the stamp set, add my own little touches, and suddenly I have something completely different.
And sometimes the best thing you can do is simply sit down and PLAY!
You never know what you’ll create.
Q. Do I need a website or blog? Do I have to make videos or accept electronic payments?
Nope!
Those are things I choose to do because they work for my business and I enjoy them.
You don’t need to have a blog, make videos, teach online, or run your business exactly the way I do.
If you decide you’d like to grow a business, we can talk about the tools and options that make sense for you. There’s no reason to overwhelm yourself trying to do everything at once.
Remember:
Your business. Your goals. Your way.
Q. I’ve heard that direct-selling companies are pyramid schemes. Is that true?
This is a question people sometimes hesitate to ask, but it’s an important one.
A legitimate direct-selling or multi-level marketing company sells actual products to customers. A pyramid scheme, on the other hand, is an illegal business model in which compensation is primarily based on recruiting participants rather than legitimate product sales.
Stampin’ Up! sells real crafting products to customers, including stamps, paper, ink, tools, kits, and accessories. Demonstrators can purchase products for themselves, sell products to customers, and, if they choose, build a team.
Most importantly, you do not have to recruit people to be a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator.
You can join simply because you love the products and want the demonstrator benefits.
As with any business opportunity, I encourage you to ask questions, understand the current requirements and compensation structure, and decide whether it’s the right fit for you. I’m happy to go over all of that with you before you make any decision.
Still Have Questions?
Ask me!
There really is no silly question when you’re trying to decide whether becoming a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator is right for you.
Whether you’re thinking:
“I just want the discount!”
“Maybe I’d like to make enough to support my stamping habit.”
“I’d love to earn a little extra money.”
or even…
“Could I actually turn something I love into a business?”
I’m happy to sit down with you, answer your questions, and help you understand your options.
No pressure. No obligation. Just answers.
